Letter from the Head of School

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Brentwood Sunshine Preschool! It is my pleasure to introduce you to our historic school, which has been a beacon of educational excellence in the local community since its founding in 1941. Today, we continue the rich legacy of Rita Cornyn, owner of the school for the past 40 years. It is an honor for me to partner with Rita’s family and all of the incredible Sunshine staff to provide a preschool program that welcomes, inspires, and nurtures children of all backgrounds, cultures, faiths, and abilities.

At Sunshine, our goal is children who are confident, compassionate, independent, and curious. We develop these qualities by encouraging children to ask questions, think critically, problem-solve creatively, and embrace challenge. Our focus on the whole child means that children build all their skills – physical, social, emotional, cognitive, academic and creative – while developing an understanding of their own competencies and interests. Our nurturing environment provides a safe place for children to explore and build an awareness of their own agency. With gentle guidance from experienced and thoughtful teachers, an intentionally-designed environment, and an engaging curriculum, we prepare children for the complex world in which we live.

We can’t achieve this alone. One of the keys to Sunshine’s success is its community involvement. A parent is a child’s first teacher and it is essential that we work together to nurture each child’s passions and strengths and identify areas for growth. We encourage your involvement in order to bridge the separation between home and school and create a nurturing second home where your child feels safe to be their true self.

We know how essential our role is in the community and do not take the responsibility of caring for your child lightly. My door is always open and I welcome your thoughts, questions, and ideas. By working together, we can overcome the uncertainty of a challenging world and ensure that every child thrives.

Warmly,
Sophie
